Wild Fires, Part II

Carmen's day had a few twists and turns. I would classify her morning as "bad" and her afternoon and evening as "good". She had trouble with the intubation today, with O2 and CO2 swinging up and down. Her body doesn't liked to be moved around, but of course they have to do it to prevent bedsores, etc... She is still in an induced coma (needed to control her breathing). Although she was stable in the afternoon, I still wouldn't consider her to be "doing well". There is no doubt that she has a long hard road ahead of her. She is still fighting though, she is tough and wants to live. The doctors have all used the word "tenuous" to describe her condition.

We're still safe from the wild fires at this time. There are two big ones, one to the south and the other to the north of us. The smoke is really bad over the city. This is a pretty bad disaster for San Diego. Man, what a tough time! I always believed that the true nature of a person shows in adversity.

Dominic is okay. He knows his mom is asleep in the hospital with a tube breathing for her and that they are trying hard to fix her lungs. I'm okay and holding strong. I felt myself getting a little stressed today with Carmen's ups and downs so I went home to take a nap for an hour rather then develop a bad attitude.

The doctors and nurses at Balboa have really been great. It is a very professional hospital, and all the staff is really trying to save Carmen. In your prayer groups, please pray for their homes and families during these fires.

You can send cards (Laurie) to my address at:
10270 Michala Pl
Santee, Ca 92071

You cannot send real flowers to the ICU, although fake ones are okay. If you send cards I will put them up.

You guys are great. I really enjoying reading your posts and knowing that someone is reading this (cause you know I wouldn't do it if it wasn't for your urging). I'll write again tomorrow.

Mike

    Hi Mike,

Thanks again for the update. I know that this is a tough time for you and Dominic. I pray that God give you strength and wisdom. Please give Carmen a message from me....I love her and miss her lots, and that I wish that I could be there to hold her hand....not that she is the touchy feely type! But, I would hold her hand anyway. All of my thoughts and prayers are with you and Dominic right now and especially for Carmen. I know that she will fight as hard as she can. You are brave. Thank the Doctors and nurses for all of us that love Carmen. I miss you and love you all.

    Hi Mike,

Of course you guys have been in my thoughts and prayers but I've especially been thinking about you during this crazy time in San Diego. And I know it sounds weird but I was glad that Carmen isn't home because I know all of this smoke would be awful for her. I've been glued to the TV since yesterday of course, and I'm glad to know that your home/area is safe. Thanks again for keeping up this blog. I've told many of my friends and family about Carmen and she is in their prayers too! :) John says hello to you and please call if you need anything at all...

    Mike,

Thank you so much for doing this. I know there are so many of us that want to be there, right by her side. Your updates are really a blessing! Every moment of every day you guys are on my mind and in my prayers.

I am A Strong Woman (Carmen Manning)

I am a woman who won't let anyone get the best of her... Because a woman of strength gives the best of her to everyone...

I am a woman who makes mistakes and avoids the same in the future... Because a woman of strength realizes life's mistakes can also be God's blessings and capitalizes on them...

I am a strong woman who walks sure footed Because a woman of strength knows God will catch her when she falls...

I am a strong woman who has faith that she is strong enough for the journey... Because a woman of strength has faith that it is in the journey that she will become strong...

    I am that Woman

    Love you guys!!

    Mike, Carmen, and Dominic
Thank you Mike for taking over the great task of continuing Carmens story. Really all of us in Key West can't tell you how much this is appreciated and I know it must be hard for you, so THANK YOU. I was looking at Carmens MySpace site, seeing all the pictures and remembering all the good times as our lives have paralled each others. Of course being a generation inbetween - Marty and Sharon's grandson being the same age as my son was and continues to be always an interesting perspective!!
Please know that all of our positive energy is being sent directly to Carmen. I really believe that she just needs a total rest right now to prepare her for when her new lungs come to her - she will be ready. You're right she is a fighter and she will be ready to face the next battle.
    Love to you all,
    Veronica
